25 CPU coolers test by Hexus - Page 3

I think the key thing to remember with testing cooling setups is that, unless they're done with absolutely clinical precision -- that is, in a laboratory setting where every controllable variable can be controlled -- they're not altogether conclusive.

As the Hexus review itself says, "Testing coolers is a tricky thing." You've simply got too many variables to try to control. Ambient temperatures, airflow, TIM application, maybe even the shirt the tester is wearing (j.k. on this last point), all affect the results of thermal performance testing. At least they've gone to some lengths testing these products in an environment as close to a consumer's experience as possible.

What's the point of this post, though? Two things: 1) Take reviews with a grain of salt, because sometimes the reviewers may have a vested interest to declare one product as the winner in a shootout (to encourage advertising sponsorship from a company, perhaps); and 2) As all knowledgeable PC enthusiasts know, there's only sure thing about components' performance: YMMV.

The only way to know how well something works, in my opinion, is to get stuck in and find out for yourself how well it does work. This gets expensive real quickly, but it's really the only way to know, as opposed to being told by someone else.

Just my .02.

***? The Intel stock beat the OCZ Vindicator? Not right! The OCZ Vindicator is essentially a rebranded Scythe Ninja. I think those results aren't too accurate.
