Father's Day Gift... (New Build)

Going to buy and build a new PC for my dad for Father's Day... would just like to see if there's anything I could/should change before I start ordering

It's going to be built using my FX-62 and DFI LP UT NF590 parts from my first build. I might upgrade it to C2D, since I kinda have an E6700 sitting around... Also going to use my Mushkin XP2-8000 memory sticks from that build, unless they prove to not work, in which case I'd get him some G. Skill HZ's.

So... on to the build!

CPU: FX-62 Have
Motherboard: DFI LanParty UT NF590 SLI Have
Memory: Mushkin XP2-8000 Have
Case: CoolerMaster Centurion 5 $49.99
Power Supply: Corsair 520HX 520w $139.99 (-$10)
Hard Drive: 2x Seagate 7200.10 320gb (RAID 0) $79.99 ($159.98)
Heatsink: Big Typhoon $48.99 + Silverstone FM121 $16.99 ($65.98)
Video Card: EVGA 8800 GTS 320MB $289.99

Total: $695.93 + shipping

Now, on to some of the choices. The only game he plays is Everquest, which is not the most graphically instense game out there. However, he would like to be able to play it with all the graphics turned on. Currently he has a Dell with a ~3GHz Pentium 4 and ATI X600 graphics card. Works fine, and was free.

I could get him an 8600 GTS and I'm sure it would play Everquest maxed out without too many issues. (He would like DX10 capability in case he tries out Vista)
EVGA 8600 GTS $189.99 ($100 saved)

With the E6700 that I might be able to use, I could go C2D and get him even more performance and he is an Intel fan (not fanboy, just has worked with Intel for years in the IT department). But, I'd need a motherboard... With minimal OC'ing, I'd probably just bump it up to 3.0GHz and call it good just to get it up and running quickly for him. I'm not even going to try to look for a motherboard idea, as I'm not good at finding one . Going to assume that a P5B would work fine...

So... any modifications/ideas/tips?

Nice config but you could likely find just as good and perhaps a more powerful PS for the same or less. The Corsair PS overcharge because of the name!

One option comes to mind...

Everything looks good, although if he is not going to be gaming, I don't really see the need for a GeForce 8 card. However to future-proof, you can get a 8500GT to save some cash.

Oh and for the case, you could get the updated Centurion 5. (Centurion 534) which has the hard drives mounted at a 90 degree angle for better cable management. But the original is still good

Your Dad will be so happy!

edit: also, that PSU is mighty expensive. This FSP is probably enough

8800GTS seems a bit of an overkill for Everquest lol, get an 8600GT and save yourself $150...
