8800Gts bottlenecked?

Thread Starter
I got a 320MB 8800GTS a few weeks ago and I just went and got F.E.A.R when I play it with a medium computer, and high GPU settings I only get an average of 38 FPS witha max of 45 FPS. I play at 1280X1024 on the computer in my sig. Does this sound right?

That doesn't sound right at all

I get higher FPS than that with my card and CPU (our CPU's are practically the same btw) and I'm only at 2.6 at the moment aswell.

It isn't the bottleneck that you are having problems with. Because your CPU is capable of pushing out more than 45FPS anyways, and so is your card.

FEAR is a poorly coded game and the 8800 series drivers are not optimized yet.

So i would say

A) Try some different drivers
B) Nothing you can really do if the game and drivers are conflicting.

That doesn't sound right to me either. On my rig at 1280x1024 at everything maxed out, computer and graphics (I'm not kidding, everything is on the highest setting, except for AA at 2x, but 4x can go suck a nut) I get 82fps average and 140fps max, about 38 or 40 fps minimum.

but wow 1680x1050 with the new monitor makes fear really hard to run at max

EDIT: I remember somehow getting lower framerates with physics on medium. Try putting physics on maximum and see what happens.

Well, whats it like for other games?

PNY = bad. Especially if you attempt to overclock at all, their cards are very stubborn.

Personally, I'd RMA for XFX or eVGA while i had the chance. I had similar problems with my PNY 7900GS that i could never actually solve, so i just got an eVGA and all my problems went away.

Thread Starter
WoW runs Pinged at 65 FPS, and battlefield 2 seems to run smooth, but I don't know how to tell how many FPS it runs at. I have messed with F.E.A.R 's settings and still can't get them above 50 FPS without having to drop GFX setting way low.

If your hardware works okay, then it's definitely time for a windows reinstall. I do it yearly to maintain good performance.
