pc sound to AV receiver advice ???

I would like some help to get sound from my pc to my AV receiver. I want to be able to listen to music from my Windows library on my home theater receiver. I know I will need a sound card. I currently have integrated sound with my MOBO. My receiver is a Yamaha 5960. My speaker setup is a full 5.1 setup. The receiver is capable of all different inputs. I would like to try digital but don't know if its possible. Also what would my cabling options be? The CPU would be 30 ft. from the AV receiver. Any thoughts ? I can give more info. if needed. Thanks!!!!!!!!

If you only want to listen to music you'll probably get the best SQ out of a setup similar to this:

Modded X-fi (only need stereo mods done)
30' mini-RCA IC

OK........mods aside, Is the x-fi xtreme music card capable of digital out sound? Or would I have to use a mini plug to RCA connection to my receiver? My Receiver has 3 digital coax inputs I can use. I think that I would get better sound this way as oppossed to the RCA inputs. Help me here, Am I thinking about this the right way ? What exactly should I be looking for in a sound card for this application?

If you have Digital coax with what you have now, just run that straight into your receiver.

Yes, the X-fi has digital out. You'll need a mini-RCA adapter or even better a custom digital coax cable.

a modded X-fi via the analogue outs would sound better than a stock x-fi's digital out to your receiver.
