I think my mobo/cpu is busted...again.

Thread Starter
Hi,
I just picked my computer up after being on a plane. Now when I tried to start it, I get 1 long beep plus 3 short beeps, followed by the computer turning off by itself.

I thought it was the PSU at first, so I replaced it with one that I knew worked but I keep getting the same error. Now I have everything except the CPU, Mobo, and PSU plugged in and the error's still there. 1 long beep plus 3 short beeps, followed by auto shutdown. The postcode tells me 83 87 9e 9c 9f. I got pheonix bios and I can't even find that beep code.
My Mobo is a Abit AV8 Uguru.

So my question is any know if it's my mobo or my CPU? Or anyone else experience this?

Appriecate any help before I hand out $ for something I might not need.

Thanks

Google is MY friend. It should be everyone's.

Did you plug your keyboard in?

Or, maybe you didn't plug your CPU fan in?

Hope this helps!

Edit: POST Code 83 definitely indicates an overheat alarm, per this. Check your HSF for functionality (or if it's unplugged).

Well the thing is, I get the same error with everything plugged in, ram, video card, HD, as with everything not plugged in. Infact I can't even get to bios in both cases, its basically 4 beeps, screen remains black and the cpu shutsdown. The HSF is definatly working and I've reset CMOS numerous times already.

1L 3S = Vid card or Vid card memory.

Reseat all components and power cables after a move like that.
Best to remove the HS, especially if it's a heavy aftermarket unit!

This sounds like it's the memory. When I put dead memory in my pc, it turns on, then shuts off after 3 seconds. it doesnt beep because I didnt connect the front speaker...

Try swapping the memory or testing them individually...

I'm sure there's an obvious answer to this but I'll ask anyway: What aren't you just using a laptop? I would think that carrying around a desktop, especially with plane travel, would be rather inconvenient. I don't even like bringing my laptop with me.
