MOV vs WMV - official comparison required?

I did a search for the above on google to see what I might find, but there don't seem to be any professional comparisons, and I think it's worth comparing them. Here's one experience where I became suspicious.

In order to take a certain part of my senior project into school, I used Vegas 7 to export it as an MOV file. It's about 10 minutes long, 640x480, and just so it wouldn't take up my entire iPod space, I reduced quality to 90. It spent all night churning out a 1.7 GB file.

Now, I have the trailer for Black Mesa on my computer, it's exactly a minute long, and is 11 MB. It's 640x480, and has almost perfect quality; I can bring it up to fullscreen and it feels like it's in HD. Of course, it is encoded in WMV.

So let's apply the same statistics. My video is also 640x480, and the final thing actually has DEGRADED quality from the original files...is 10 minutes long, so...wouldn't it be 110 MB?
1.7 GB. WHAT THE HELL. I have a feeling I'm majorly missing something here, because as an MOV, this is taking up over 15 times as much as it should.

I've actually been really impressed by the quality and compression of the latest WMV codecs, and I'm wondering if anyone has ever formally compared it to MOV. Obviously, it's not going to be as good as DivX, but I'd like to see a comparison to that too, just to see how far the gap is.

Well, I like .wmv a lot better. Quicktime has a lot of issues with me, and often it will keep a history, which I can't delete, and often .mov files have viruses, or whatever. They do this by opening a link to a virus-laden page. I hate that. Also, I find .wmv files to have slightly better quality, and are much smaller. For example, a .wma is only about half as large as a .mp3 of similar quality.
