vista 32 bit and 64 bit differences - Page 2

Even if none of the games you play use it, the services in the background and other background apps can usually support it, which takes a load off of your cpu.

ROFL you got no idea how hard you made me laugh and im not joking haha. but i already have vista my dilema is keep 32 bit, or if i would see a better performance on 64 bits. going back to your options in a serious way, i went with #1 because imo whoever buys a 8800 or any directx 10 card and keeps telling everyone..."vista suxs go with xp it pwns!" is a fool, for literally burning their money in a foolish way

besides that, it did made me laugh lol

I just bought the 32bit vs of Vista. I was wondering about the performance as well as look. Will the 64bit have better grpx resolutions than the 32bit version? I had XP 64 and didn't notice the display properties change to 64bit of color. Will Vista do that or will there be 64bits of color?

No. That's really all dependant on your video card and monitor.

64-bit OS can support.... 64-bit applications! If you run math apps like Maple or MatLab, you will see something like a 120% performance improvement.

Another feature is that 64-bit Vista has slightly more secure driver signing requiremens (which can make it hard to overclock with non-signed apps).
Once again...

Don't you need to find programs that specifically support an alternate 64bit version? That means alot of apps won't work already unless they are running 32bit.

And about the extra ram, having 4GB of ram does not even affect performance in games, so seems like a waste of effort.

Maybe next year we will see it becoming of more use.

It really all depends on the type of program you want to run. The only 64 bit specific software I had to get (aside from drivers of course) was Daemon Tools. All the normal programs I use work fine in 64 Bit Vista. Normal stuff like AIM, Limewire, etc. It all works.

No, it will run 32bit apps. Downward compatibility and all that. Assuming you have good/working drivers, which shouldn't be a problem anymore, almost everything that works on 32bit should also work on 64.

Hold on there now, me and many others are already seeing problems with only having 2gb on Vista for gaming. For Vista I think people need to start throwing out the "2gb is plenty" mentality, cause it's not enough, for gaming mostly I mean, for now anyway. And as time passes, 2gb will quickly IMO become more and more insufficient. I added more ram, can't see it all cause I have 32bit Vista, but now I have a little over 3gb, and trust me it helps. I wish I had gotten 64bit Vista actually, may move this OS to my other rig to replace XP on it, then I'll get 64bit Vista for my main here.
