Can DX10 work on 7 serious - Page 2

even if they do crack it, it will be faster on Vista and you will still need DX10 compatible hardware, such as an 8-series

I thought DX10 revolved around the Unified Shaders. At the hardware level, the 7-series cards don't have that, ergo they will not be able to do DX10, regardless of it being ported/cracked to/for XP.

There is a lot that nvidia won't tell the public to prevent people from using geforce7 cards for DX10. DirectX is a lot like and instruction set. Even without it, the processor can still do the task, but is not optimized to do it the new way. So there may be a chance that DX9 cards will be able to do DX10 but in the DX9 way, so it'll be slow as hell. Or maybe even slower....

Uh wouldn't that be like saying 5 years ago "let's get PC Hardware to run Mac PPC OSs"? Neither is the hardware optimized, nor will it work with the software; it will not "just run it slower."

Thats a rumor, and if that is even possible there would be countless numbers of lawsuits because it would mean M$ lied along with NVIDIA and ATI. Every single DX10 card owner would have a valid lawsuit. DX10 cannot be ran on a DX9 card, if it can, its not DX10.
