Question about my Hyper-Transport....

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
I am currently running my HT speed at 520.18MHz @ 2.6GHz cpu overclocking. My memory is running at 216.7MHz. Should I put my HT speed lower to get a higher CPU overclock when running a 3-3-3-7-10-16 divider on the memory. The lowest I can go on the HT is 200MHz and there is no 300MHz option... Should everything work at 200MHz HTL, with a higher memory overclock and CPU overclock? Any help would be great.

Is your HT multipler at 2x now? Just set it to 3x. You want HT frequenct at 600-1000MHz.

Your "FSB" is 260MHz.
2x260 = 520.
3x260 = 780.
Once again...

My Motherboard doesn't go in 2x,3x,4x,5x...and so on. It does go 200MHz, 400MHz, 600MHz, 800MHz, 1000HHz. I moved it up to 600MHz so really it is running at 780.29MHz HT speed... Here is a screen shot of the program that I used to monitor my speed.

It is just a manufacturer terminology difference:
200MHz = 1x
400MHz = 2x
600MHz = 3x
800MHz = 4x
1000MHz = 5x

Like I said, set the HT Multipler to 3x and get 780MHz.

Alright, I didn't know how the 2x,3x stuff went...sorry. If I went to 4x (800MHz) this would put me around 980MHz HT. Would this be to high or should this give a great performance increase?

No.... 4 x 260 = 1040.

While this is usually safe, there is absolutely no point in overclocking your HT over 1000MHz. You need only around 600-800MHz to avoid a bottleneck. Since it is only usually safe, don't do it. If it turns out to bad, you have data corruption which can kill OS.

What duckieHo said, you do not want to go way over 1000, though slightly over is no harm done. And again it all depends on your specific rig. You can set it to one thing, run 3dmark06 or another pgoram and see the difference between before and after scores...

I would do 1040 if I could get that close. Some boards don't like to do over 1100 though.
