Why is RAID so fast? - Page 2

It's like driving people with a car from point A to point B. If there are 8 people, and the car can fit 4 passengers, then you have to make two trips. But if there are two 4 passenger cars, it takes half the time.

So, lets say I have TWO 36.6Gb raptors.

If I raid-0 them, will I have ONE BIG 73.2Gb drive or will i have ONE 36.6Gb drive?

RAID 0 = 73.2

RAID 0 - adds the drives together to form a single drive.
RAID 1 - mirrors the drives, useful for backup etc... in case one drive fails.

So wrong. This is not even close to being accurate. Saying this is like saying a Core 2 Duo at 3GHz is a 6GHz processor.


Two Caviar's in RAID0 would provide faster overall speeds. However, a single Raptor will still have a better seek time (but this is less important)
