e2160 & e2140? - Page 2

I would get e6420/e4300 depending on money. Cache does make a decent increase. Also, the Q6600 will be 266$ in a few months which is something to think about if you want to go that route.

Hmmm, very nice pricing. I would still go e4300 over it though, for like 30$ more

Ah, thats ok then, I would recommend the gigabyte ds3 for a board if it is in your price range. If not, the biostar tforce board will overclock just as good for cheap.

I think that the X2 3600 for 59 bucks and then a CPU cooler is a better than the new chips from Intel but I guess it sets you up for a Quad Core later or something.
They're Intel's new budget Core 2 Duos, apparently aimed at the entry-level dual-core users, with only 1MB of L2 cache and using the Allendale core. The E2140 starts out at 1.6GHz and the E2160 starts at 1.8GHz. Both use a base FSB of 800MHz. I believe they use an 8x multiplier, so you can overclock decently, but as with the other Allendale cores, higher rated GHz doesn't necessarily make it a faster processor in comparison to the Conroe cores.

Then again, as I said, these are meant for the low-budget end of the dual-core users.
