4GBs of PC 5300?

Thread Starter
I have 2 GBs of PC 5300 running at 750 Mhz at 4-4-4-12. I just ordered 2 More GBs of the same ram. Will I notice a difference from 2Gbs to the 4Gbs on windows xp and games?

32-bit Doesn't allow you to use 4GB of ram completely, you are going to be capped at around 3.2GB, and I don't think you will see a difference in gaming or windows compared to 2GB, in vista you will.

Only if you have a x64 version of Windows will you be able to take advantage of the full 4GB. 3.5GB less video memory if you don't.

You won't notice as much of a difference going from 2 to 4GB as from 1 to 2GB.

One of my friends installed another 2GB of DDR2 667MHz ram (4GB total), and it didn't seem like his computer ran any different, including games. He's running XP 64-bit. It may make a difference in Vista, not sure. I run 2GB in vista 32-bit and at idle it uses about 500mb (with some programs like Speedfan and ATItool, etc in the background), but haven't noticed the typical jumpiness you get from using Virtual Mem when playing games - so I don't think I've maxed out the 2GB.

Will it actualy hurt my performce by haveing 4GBs in the system seeing as windows XP 32bit only supports 3Gb? Should I cancle my order and get 2 x 512MB chips (that would = 3GBs total in my system)?

The sweet spot is currently 2GB in my opinion. Having mixed sized sticks isn't that good an idea, and 4GB just doesn't improve performance at all.

I'd cancel the order and live happily with 2GB. Only if you do a lot of image and/or video editing does 4GB in a 64-bit environment make sense.

In your position, I'd likely cancel the order, sell your current RAM and get a quality kit of 2GB DDR2 800 (G.Skill HZ) or faster RAM.

My motherboard only supports 667 so I won't see a difference with going to 800

Why should you get another 2 gb when you have already 4 gb. You won't notice the difference that much since it's not 64bit or Vista.
