Opty 170 worth upgrade over 3800 X2?

Thread Starter
Hey all-

I currently have a 3800 X2 overclocked to 2.7. Is it worth the $100 bucks for the Opty 165? Will I see a noticable performance boost? Just wondering if anyone has done a similar upgrade and what thier thoughts were.

Thanks.

EDIT: Sorry about that, I meant the 165. I was looking at the 170 when I typed this.

Probably not worth $100 to upgrade since the only big difference is the L2 cache (yes, no?) There wouldn't be a big performance boost

definitely not, for a few % performance boost you might get it is not worth $100 at all. Save the cash for a decent upgrade later.

Or put it towards a decent video card

Really? That extra cache doesn't do much at all then?

The extra l2 cache would matter most under full load, but for the cost, that is up to you to decide.
