8800GTS and FRAPS!

Ok, well iv been trying to record videos of gaming with my 8800 using FRAPs. I run into a problem.

While in the game i can be getting over 60fps, when i push the key to record video, FRAPS drops my fps all the way down to 10fps! Im pretty sure there is a huge problem there...

With my 7300, it would never drop fps but about 3-5fps. There was never a huge gap like that.

nVidia needs to fix their crap drivers. This almost makes me want to switch to the new ATi card. Perhaps they are more reliable with drivers. Everywhere i go i seem to run into problems with this card. Although it has great performance, it just isnt stable with some games and FRAPS.

Are you running a higher res now? Could be bogging down the whole system trying to write the recording to disk.

***EDIT

And you probably won't see much better support from ATI drivers :-\\

Isn't there a frame lock option in FRAPS? Try setting it manually to 60. Recording FPS for me is fine. I have a totally different problem

My problem: Records fine in-game, but the video shows nothing and there's no sounds. Only screen shot works.

I was playing NFSMW, which even my 7300 can play maxed. I was running 1024x768 to start with, it went from 60 to 10. And so yea, i thought maybe the res was too high as well, lowered the res to 640x480 and it was the same. It was still running at around 10fps.

Outragous.

It's probably your RAM. 1GB doesn't sound like enough to record video and manage your gameplay simultaneously.

I remember that 1680x1050 with some filtering on NFSMW gave my cards a run for their money! Impressive 7300 I guess

There might be some settings that I am not familiar with in FRAPS, but to me, it sounds like something is getting choked up bigtime.

@Tai - I never had much luck recording sounds either, but I have never played with FRAPS that much for recording, more for monitoring :-D

That doesnt explain why my 7300GS ran it fine though. Cuz i could run NFSMW maxed on that card as well, it ran at about 35fps, and when i would start recording with it it would only drop to around 25fps.

NFSMW isnt a very taxing game at all, 1gb should more then enough to record video while playing it. My problem is that a 50fps gap is freaking retarded.

Ill play with the frame lock thingy in FRAPS and see what it does. Its currently set to 30fps.

With my 7300 i had to run 800x600 to max it, since it had 64-bit memory higher resolutions really killed it lol.

Fraps is defaulted to drop the fps down to 25,30,50 or 60 depending on the setting when you chose to record a video. If you want to change the fps at which the video is recorded, goto the movies tab and there you can change it.

Don't think it's a driver problem.. I can fraps just fine with my 8800 320.
I also have 2 gb of ram, so maybe Gearbox is on to something.
