No, you cannot replace the battery, sadly. But if it does run out on you like that, please call up Apple and explain it to them and customer service should replace it for you since it's our screw up. At least, I would set that up for you.
As for scratches, the iPhone is using a strong, scratch resistant glass on the screen to deflect both scratches and smudges.
