No, quad-band is 850 / 900 / 1900 /1800 (99% sure) which makes the phone a world phone and will work anywhere in the world (so long as it is unlocked and you can put in a local sim)... Say I go to Israel with my unlocked Pebl (quad-band) it will work with the local cell service there.. If I have a tri / dual band it may not.. If you have an 1800/1900 dual band phone it will work like shetaki mushrooms on ATT because ATT uses 850 / 1900 t-mobile is mostly 1900 with a bit of 1800...
WAP which is even older and worse is basically dial up, EDGE is basically DSL where the bands is the modem and 3G is modern day cable. EDGE is a cheaper alternative of 3G but still you need a phone that is EDGE ready otherwise you can use WAP which is yeah.. CRAP?
Everyone knows Cingular is now again, AT&T but not everyone is used to it.. Even the AT&T reps are like Hello thanks for calling c-i-AT&T this is <name>..
