help me with my build!

Thread Starter
I have no more than $500 to spend but this is what i am looking at.
Im using my harddrives, dvd-rom and case from my old comp.

CPU: c2d e4300 $114

MOBO: gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 $129
http://computers.pricegrabber.com/mo...abyte%20ga-965

HS: Tuniq Tower 120 $45

RAM: corsair 1gb pc2-6400 ddr2 $58
http://computers.pricegrabber.com/la...1gb%20pc2-6400

PSU: ultra / x-infinity / 500watt / atx / black $56
http://computers.pricegrabber.com/po...1/search=ultra

Video card: XFX Geforce 7300GT $80
http://computers.pricegrabber.com/vi...ds/m/21418851/

So around 480 on that so far and 20$ left. I would like to squeeze all 500 out.

Im not looking for absolute max OC but around 2.6 to 2.8
Im not a hardcore gamer anymore but i do play quake2 and quake3 so the video card i listed should be fine unless there is something better for $80

Considering my last comp was an amd athlon xp 2000 / x2 512 pc3200 ram / radeon 9200 120meg this is a significant upgrade for me.

Just tell me what you think so far and any suggestions would be helpful

if you are going for budget i reccomend the Athlon 3600+ X2 Brisbane($59) they have been known to hit 3 with good cooling, also use an ASUS M2R32-MVP ($150) then get 2GB of G.Skill HZ's ($120) then you have $180 dollars left to upgrade the PSU to maybe an Xclio 500W, so that leaves $130 for GFX and you could get an 8600GT so hope that helps

I say if you just want a moderate overclock you don't need a tuniq tower.

Stick with the stock cooler, it's cheap
Stick with the C2D! The egg is cheaper, try this.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116036 $100

Mobo:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128017
or
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128042 $99

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231063 $70

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104037 $65 (MIR)

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130062
$101
These are all shipped prices so your grand total would be $435
If you went with an e6300 you total would be $499 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115005 )
or you could get this cooler for $20 + s/h http://www.svc.com/acfzp7.html, but if your only looking for a mild OC a stock cooler should do OK

I dont think I see many people talking about that e2160 processor so i think ill just stick with the e4300 because of what ive heard and besides it has more l2 cache.

That 965p s3 mobo looks pretty good though.
Ram also looks good

thanks =)

Just asked around about the e2160 and its almost on par with the e4300 despite having half the cache, check the links to see for yourself.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=6765
http://mpt.pconline.com.cn/topic.do?...comment&id=261

Id go with the e2160 and but a better video card like x1950gt or x1900gt, u can find them for around $115, much much better than that 7300gt

good luck with the build
