New E6420 and ASUS P5B Deluxe build...

Components:

Status:

HERE (pretty big screen shot)

BIOS Settings:

Multiplier - 8
CPU Frequency - 425MHz
DRAM Frequency - 850MHz
PCI Express Frequency - 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode - 33.33MHz
Spread Spectrum - Disabled
Memory Voltage - 2.25V
CPU vCore Voltage - 1.4375V
FSB Termination Voltage - 1.400V
NB vCore - 1.55V
SB vCore (SATA, PCIEE) - 1.60V
ICH Chipset Voltage - 1.215V

Overclock - 160%
CPU Speed - 3400MHz
RAM Speed - 425MHz

This is my first Intel OC. I had an AMD machine that was overclocked about 20%, nothing crazy.
I tried running this at 450MHz FSB (3.6GHz) and I think the memory was the limitation preventing it from passing ORTHOS. But it did boot and I was able to browse the web etc.

Any suggestions?

You can lower the NB vcore to 1.45v, that would work fine. And if you want to clock higher I think the cpu will need more vcore. What are your temps like? More volts = more heat.

To the touch, the RAM is burning up, but the copper rods off of the Tuniq are hot to the touch, but cooler than the RAM....

The CPU temps are stable at 56C @ 100% load.

Lower your memory voltage to 2.15v, the sticks should be able to handle 850mhz then.

With those temps I wouldn't raise the vcore more, so I'd suggest you stick at 3.4Ghz unless you want to test how high it really goes

Just woke up to find this: http://www.poldim.com/temp/chimera,%...status%202.jpg

It failed the ORTHOS test 9 hours 16 minutes into the test. Any suggestions on what can be done to make it stable at this speed?
Temps were 56C during full load yesterday, but the temp in the room was between 76F-80F. Now that its cooled down in here the room to ~68F and its at idle the temps were 22C.

The computer is going to be used for very limited gaming and pretty strenuous CAD work. Some of these assemblies have over a thousand parts so I'd like to keep at high a stable performance as possible.
I also need to get a soft lead pencil and do the pencil mod. See if that helps any...

If anyone is curious about these components, they work great in my system overclocked to 3.4 from 2.13 for over 32.5 hours.

Now I'm going to install some software...

I'm copying you're build exactly except i plan (actually i already have) a 320mb GTS instead of the 640.

Anyways, from your stability problems i think you might want to check that the tower is sitting flush. Maybe use some good thermal paste (that MX crap is fantastic, i'll edit in a link in a second) because you should be a LITTLE lower maybe 2-3C.

Arctic Cooling MX-1. Better than AS5, cheaper than AS5. Unfortunately the Egg is sold out, but i'm sure you can find some elsewhere.
