hp dv6000 ir remote in linux?

i have this app that came with fedora core 7 called IRKick which says it's for using your remote controll but it says i have to install lirc so when i go to do that i have to set up the driver somehow it gives me a list of devices but i have no idea which one to choose because none of them seem to be it. anyone have any idea???

lirc is one of the most confuseing programs out there
try using xbindkeys and xbindkeys-config
