Creamique AS application

I just got some of this arctic silver creamique compound and was intending to use the line down the middle application, however this stuff is incredibly thick, I was not expecting it to be like that. I have been using the compound that came with my zalman heat sink, and that stuff was a liquid and it applied like nail polish.

needless to say, it was extremely difficult to get a well defined line, so then I tried the dot method, which was even worse. How do you guys get rid of the tails that string off after you apply the compound? They turn out like little chocolate kisses with stingy tails all over the place.

I eventualy applied it so it was at least reasonable, however my temps are exactly the same at first boot. Should I expect to see some "set in" temp drops with this type of compound?

No thats completely normal. That stuff is a sticky mess tho. Once the heat really gets to it it will get a little more "liquidy" and fill in all the little cracks and such in your IHS and HSF then will get a little more sticky before your temps will drop from curing. The end result?
When you take off your HSF the next time, it will look exactly like any other thermal paste.

Whatever you are applying the compound with, twist it as your pull away, should shorten the "strings" of residue.

Ceramique is usually reserved for abnormally low temperature cooling methods, like TEC+water or phase...but you should see close to the same performance as AS5, assuming the application went well.

I take a dot of ceramique (I use it on the workstations here in the office) and spread it a bit with my finger in a cleaned plastic baggie (with IPA) then push the heatsink down, twist twice and clamp for a pretty good coverage each time
