Convince me why I should jump ship from AMD - Page 4

But aren't you being an AMD fanboy?

What makes you think otherwise? In every single benchmarks you (amd fanboys) have seen it time after time after time after time after time.........that an X2 just doesn't measure up, against a C2D.

The numbers speak for themselves, get it? got it? good!

If you guys are still dreaming that an X2 doesn't bottle neck a G80? Then time to wake up and smell the coffee, because it does, big time and if you don't want to admit it? Well, that's why there are AMD fanboys.

C2D FTW!

Heck! Even Pentium Ds overclocked are better and more competitive: http://www.overclockers.com.au/artic...?id=452447&P=4

And I'm sure IF someone were to say that they want a G80 along with a Pentium D, you guys would be spitting out: X2, you need amd, you need amd........bah!

This is a great post! clock for clock c2d all the way. C2D also O.C. helluva lot better. As for the whole bottleneck thing, If you game hard and you get a chance to try a top grfx card with a low cpu or visa versa, you will see for yourself.

Nasgul, I think you're missing the point that upgrading a 7300 to a 8800 will net much more fps gains than upgrading a x2 3800 to an E4300.

Sure AMD boxes can't break 12K in 3Dmark06, but neither can Core 2 Quads with a 7300. I think that is the point mootsfox wanted to make.

Anyways, if you're not doing gaming or folding or video editing etc, I don't see why you need the E4300. After all, if you didn't find a need to oc your x2, what made you think you need a conroe?

You don't need an upgrade, stick with your current system and save up for future.

I do fold (see icon at left), and I do some graphical editing, granted its not heavy editing, just some pictures I take with my digital camera.

Gaming, not much, but every now and again I'll veg and game for a bit. Not enough to justify a 8800, but a C2D? Thats open for discussion. Faster is always better. I don't like waiting for applications to load.

Maybe I missed it somewhere, but did you say you maxed out your OC at 2.25? If its raw speed you're looking for, maybe before you start shelling out the cash you could see what you could do to get that sucker running a bit faster, like Nasgul suggested. Free speedups are my favorite

That being said, I would think more heavily about this decision after the (famed) drop date of July 22nd. What you can get with your budget now will be different then what you can get in a month. That may be a worthy upgrade.

I'm sorry I can't take advice from a UofM fanboi.

Yes and no for 2.25 being maxed out. I didn't start messing with memory timings and voltages any as I don't thoroughly understand that much about O/Cing yet. But I'm getting there. I just upped the FSB a bit and stability tested it with Orthos. It was good at that point for a bit, and then the screen started acting funky several weeks later (video card issue I think it was?) I upped the FSB past the 2.25 level and the screen would just freeze, so I dunno. I never did try a lower multiplier or anything, but was satisfied with 2.25 for the time being.

It also sounds like Intel is easier to overclock than AMD. That processor I listed in my first post seems like its getting to 3ghz without even messing with the voltages from reading some reviews and such. Pretty impressive.

If I were you I'd make do with what you have for another month or so and then make the jump to a Core 2 after the price drops.
