Fedora 7 = dead

Hey, i accidently killed my Fedora 7. I deleted the xorg.conf file, and now it loads X but i can't move my mouse. All i can do is use the keyboard and tab between fields. How do i boot up the OS so that X doesn't start and i can type stuff in a Terminal and load up my backup xorg.conf file?

Also, how do you install the dang nVidia driver? I dled the most recent one from the site and have it on my desktop. I destroyed my X settings file on purpose so that when i loaded up the OS it would give me a terminal. I got it to install, but all it did was further F up the xorg.conf.

So now i'm stuck with only a keyboard and i don't have any knowledge of how to boot without X. Anyone have a solution? I do have a bootloader for dual-booting F7 and winblows, if that helps.

ctrl+alt+F1 will kill x-server completely and allow you to install your drivers, which should fix your xorg.conf file. To install them kill x then login as root and use the command "sh NVIDIA-Display-whatever-version-pkg1.run" but obviously fix the file name to match what you downloaded

***EDIT
Don't forget linux is cap sensitive

Thanks; i'm back in my OS now with a mouse. I'd like to run Beryl. I suppose i have everything installed for it, and isn't F7 even supposed to come with it preinstalled? Well i downloaded some packages for it and when i go to "System Tools > Beryl Manager" i get a white screen that does nothing until i ctrl + alt + backspace to restart X, and then i get to log back in. Upon trying "Desktop Effects" in "System > Preferences > Look and Feel > Desktop Effects," i click "enable" and the screen looks like it's transforming and then reverts and says "Desktop effects could not be activated."

I still can't get that nVidia driver in the shell package thing to install. Whenever i do, it gives me an xorg.conf file that doesn't work

This is how you do it in Fedora 6
Source: http://www.fedorafaq.org/#nvidia

Q: How do I enable 3D support for my nVidia graphics card in Fedora?
A: There are now nVidia driver RPMs provided by livna.org that are designed especially for Fedora. Here's how to install them:
Make sure that you're using my yum configuration from the installing software question.
Open a Terminal.
Become root:

su -
Install the driver:

yum install kmod-nvidia
Shut down X:

init 3
Log in as root.
Enable the driver:

nvidia-config-display enable
Restart X:

init 5

And now you should have working 3D with your nVidia card!

Please tell me if you have a conflict with SE-Linux policy using that method.

Beryl will not have a hope of starting until the nVidia drivers are installed and working.

personally I have never gotten beryl to work correctly on my fedora 6, or any others for that matter. Compiz works like a charm though once kmod drivers are working right
