Need help Installing Linux

Okay..So I downloaded the Iso image file from the Ubuntu and got the latest version which was 7.04, I burn it on to a cd and i rebooted..press enter...but there was nothing but a black screen and a underline _ blinking..then it returns back to the windows logo and boot back to my windows Xp..but it doesnt boot into the cd for some reason..can anyone help me out?

OK, some basic questions. Did you check the MD5 hash for consistency before you burned the disk? What software did you use to burn the ISO? Can you mount the disk in your current OS? Is the CD drive set as the primary boot device?

Are you certain that you burned the ISO file correctly? What utility did you use to burn the image?

...no offense, but that happened to me.

Cd Drive is set as primary boot device..and yes i can mount the disk in my current OS...but i don't know what MD5 means..sorry X_x

In most basic terms, MD5 hash is a series of hexadecimal digits often used to verify the integrity of software. On the Ubuntu website, there should be an MD5 string. Download any of the many MD5-sum checkers, and compare it's output with the hash string online. If there are differences, download and burn Ubuntu again.

I am running the SAME version of Kubuntu, and the live boot does sometimes be retarded when you click the install icon. The password checker is not right, i have to keep restarting the process about 5 times before it actually accepts the passwords. Yes, make absolutely sure you burned an image on the disk and did not just copy to disk and burn with windows!! I too made that mistake.
