Wrong CPU temp?

Thread Starter
I've been having problems lately determining my idle temps for my cpu. Just today i switched my ACF7 to a Zalman 9700 and i've noticed a slight temp drop. However, even though with the ACF7 i've been reading idle core temps of around 50-52, with the Zalman 9700 i still read idle core temps of around 48-50. I've looked at various cpu temp monitoring apps such as speedfan, TAT, and coretemp and they all say that my idle core temps are between 48 and 50. My cpu is overclocked to 3.2.

Are the cpu temps that i'm reading from these apps wrong or is my cpu really having idle temps of 48-50?

i know they run cool but i'm still confused as to what the idle temps are....i just can't believe that speedfan, TAT and coretemp say that my idle core temps are 48-50 even when i got a brand new heatsink

uhh, 48-50c isnt a "cool" idle temp, but its not "bad" temp. Do you have adjustable fan speed? Is it set to keep your cpu around 50c? Also I dont think youll see a huge difference between the acf7p and the zalman unless you have very good air flow through your case.

i know that 48-50C isn't cool but my question is that are speedfan, TAT and coretemp reading my core temps incorrectly or are they reading them correctly? 48-50C is just very unusual for a C2D especially with 2 good heatsinks

and no i don't have a fan speed control

Yes, if they are all showing the same temps then it is very likely that they are correct. If you have all the auto adjustment turned off including bios, speedfan, and the easytune software that came with the board then I guess the next questions would be what are your load temps, and what do you have for case cooling?

i have stock fans that came with my case......i just don't understand how my cpu is idling at 48-50 even when i re-apllied thermal paste with the ACF7 twice AND i switched to a brand new Zalman 9700....i'm thinking the cpu temp sensor may be worn out or something but that's very unlikely

What are your load temps? Also from what Ive heard the zalman relies heavily on good air movement. What are your ambient temps?

ambient temps are around 30C....my load temps are like 55C....however i'm talking about the core temps and not the cpu temp.....the core temps says they're at 48-50C while the cpu temp says it's at 40-42C and that doesn't make sense

i seem to be having problems running this program. after i finish playing a game i try to run it to check my cpu temps and my comp crashes, i get the BSOD. when i reboot though and run the program before anything else it works fine. its only after i play a game or run another program that it crashes which is wierd to me.

has anyone else encountered this problem?
