Wrong CPU temp? - Page 2

Core temp is ALWAYS going to be higher than CPU temp because the sensors are on the dies themselves whereas the CPU temp sensor is, more than likely, on the board below the CPU. If I am incorrect, someone please correct me!

I have a Zalman (the big soupbowl thin with a 120mm fan in the middle) and pretty high anbient temps, On a wim I put on a cheapo (& noisy) $20 Masco cooling tower of some sort...Temp droped 10c at idle!

No big Zalman fan (nio pun intended)

As long as they don't go ABOVE 60ºC under 100% load, You're all well and good!!!

You should worry ONLY if the core temps are going well above 60ºC. If your CPU temp is reaching 55ºC or more, then I would start to worry!!! If you're CPU is sitting at 40ºC idle, you should not even reach the 55ºC mark!!!

ok that makes sense.....but i still don't understand why my cpu is idling at such a hot temp when i re-applied thermal paste twice and then got a new heatsink....my cpu used to idle at like 33-35

The Zalman 9700's require EXCELLENT case airflow. I've got a 9500 and LOTS of airfow in my case (4-80mm intake,1-120mm exhaust ) with one 80mm blowing directly on the CPU HSF and I'm idling at 28-30ºC!

How many case fans do you have in that XION case anyways and how are they configured?

i got 3 case fans.....one 120mm in the back, one 120mm in the front and an 80mm on the side......i'm thinking i should replace the 2 120mm's with silverstone fans but i'm not sure

coretemp wont work on AMD I believe. I think that what your seeing is the T case reading and the T junction reading. The Tjunction is the 2 temps for your cores which has a sensor built into the cpu. Your T case reading is the sensor on your mobo under the cpu. A lot of people report a difference of up to 12c btween the two readings. It doesnt matter much anyway if your only loading at 55c then you should be OK
