Understanding CPU Temps on C2D

Thread Starter
I just went from a PD 940 to a Core 2 Duo 6420. I have a Igloo 5700(now with a FM121 strapped to it ) and my ambient temp is 20C. With the 940, the Nvidia monitor and Speefan said it would idle at 43 and run about 56-58 under orthos.

Now I bring up Speedfan and Nvidia Monitor on my 6420 and it shows a Idle of 35 with a load temp of 46C, but TAT shows the cores running at 33/33 underload and 25/27 idle.

Which one is right? I thought TAT was more accurate it but it is like 10-12C less than the other 2 and that blows my mind. What is a good tool to monitor temps on a regular basis? I have had heat problems for so long that seeing temps in the 20 and 30's isn't something I am use to.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

TAT is very good, but if you want to reaffirm it then use Everest Corporate Edition. (Google it ) Best one I've used so far.

Coretemp and TAT under Orthos load is 36C

EDIT: so yeah load temps are 36/36 on both TAT and Coretemp, but it is 46 on the Nvidia Monitor and Speedfan's top CPU temp. Speefan's Core 0 and Core 1 temps match TAT and Coretemp.

So I am just confused is the Nvidia Monitor right and its running 46 or is it running 36?

Okay Everest Ultimate reports the same as Speedfan.

Idle
CPU 34C
CPU1 25C
CPU2 27C

Load
CPU 46C
CPU1 36C
CPU2 35C

So if I was to overclock, do I need to make sure the CPU stays below 55 or the individual cores stay below 55?
