Unlocking the 8800GTS = worse performance?

Ok, well i just downloaded RivaTuner 2 to play with my fan speed settings, it seems the defaults were all 100%, which i thought was odd.

But anyway, i was browsing and found the good ol unlocking tab. Now, i also unlocked my previous 6800 and i believe thats what caused it to artifact, cuz i unlocked it almost right after i got it, it had stock 8 pipes and i unlocked it to 16 pipes.

After checking all the disable sp's, it read as 128sp's, so basically the same as the GTX right? Only lower clocks and of course less memory.

I ran 3DMark 06 after a re-boot, it ran fine, didnt see any artifacts, but i got a lower score then with 96sp's.

My stock score was around 7,300, and with it unlocked i got 7,051.

Could this be a problem? Why would the performance be worse?

You can't unlock any card newer than 6800. They are laser cut at the factory (as opposed to software disabled).

Stupid lasers. I feel stupid now lol.

I havent done any unlocking since the 6800, so i didnt know they changed their ways. I guess they learned everyone was unlocking the 6800s lol.

Is it possible to connect the laser cut pipelines with a wire in the back of the card and maybe solder the contacts? And maybe a little voltmod here or there? I really have no idea, but if the pipelines are there, Id think there must be some way to do it?

are those sharks with laser beams attatched to their heads?

ok in all honesty the only way to unlock a modern core is to cut it open find the laser cut traces and reconnect, we wish you luck
