Why do people keep telling the 8600 is about the same as a 7600.... the 8600 is on par with the 7900 and X1950PRO.

IT's a different technology...

The 8600 is a pretty good card .

chozart I think your referring to the 8600GTS and not the 8600GT...the 8600GT is terrible considering its "new tech" and its only a little faster than a 7600GT

In synthetic benchmarks the 8600gt beats an X1950PRO:
http://www.xsreviews.co.uk/reviews/g.../msi-8600gt/5/

Yes, in gaming benchmarks it falls behind a little (note that at higher res in BF2142 it pulls ahead). I would like to see an 7600GT with these kinds of results.

More reviews, similar outcome.
http://www.gamepyre.com/reviewsd.html?aid=828&p=11

The 8600GT holds up very well in higher resolutions. And in all games, a substantial improvement over the 7600GT.

I agree. People are going around telling other people bs that 7600 beats 8600gt and that the gt just has dx10 over the 7600. However, I've heard that in games the 8600s aren't great, but I really doubt they are that bad.

Btw: My card clocks pretty much as well as yours and it's not SC. I saw a few threads about you saying they are cherry picked. Guess not =)

Right out of the box my 8600GT went to 750mhz/1800mhz no mod's done to it! even stock cooling.

It's awesome, just got done playing LostPlanet DX10 with my 360 Controller.

DX10 is going to be epic.

Performance/price is awesome, $129 for this card and it'll play just about any DX9 game maxed out at a decent reso.
