X800 pro power problem

Thread Starter
first of all, Howdy
I have a ati x800 pro vivo flashed to xt pe, it all worked fine for months, I bought myself a 1950 pro and this card went over to an other computer.
The power supply wasnt strong enough though. I hooked up an other psu next to it, dumb as i was, it worked fine for 2 days, after that I closed the case and thought I saved myself a few bucks for a new psu. But then it didn't work anymore, it said the molex for power wasn't in his slot. Checked, but it was in, pulled out, other molex, no luck. I put it back in the other computer with igreen psu which should be good and didn't work either. I tried all molex connectors but i had no luck. But since it still shows that the cable isn't in the gpu is still alive...? Is it some part that opened the circuit so it wasn't blown up by the additional psu?

So, I beleive the gpu is ok, any of you who has experience with this? There is no physical damage on the card. I can post pictures altough you won't see much, all those tiny thingys hehe.

Thankyou

Now you know why it isnt a good idea to screw around with the power of your videocard. In my opinion the card is busted.

I think you damaged the card in some way since it doesnt work anymore even on your Igreen PSU, which should work fine. If you take the X1950Pro out and put the X800 in and it doesnt work you can be very shure that in some way the card is busted.

Try it in another machine and see if it works. Its always good to make perfectly shure that a card is busted before trying anything with it.

you might have blown an IC or a resistor of some sort on the card.
take it to a shop and just ask them to analize it for you.then you can decide from there on.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!! I have an ATI x800GTO and around 8 months ago I restarted my system, and boom, checkered colours all over the screen, impossible to see anything. I waited, assuming that the card just had a problem as it was already second hand, and bought a 7300GS as I was on a small budget.
I thought that maybe if I tried it on another system it could work, but I didn't have two PCI-e boards at home. Yesterday I had the chance to try it out on another board and it worked. I took it home and it works. maybe tonight it wont, but the thing is that I have this crappy molex to 6 pin cable adapter for the card, a standard power supply that I got with the case, plus in 8 months my system has slightly changed (as in I have a few less things that take in power), so I can't really help you.
I'm still miffed.

In my case it's slightly different. The card gives me a normal display. Computer beeps that you want to throw it out the window. It tells you the molex is not in it's slot.

It's probably an electronic part somewhere near the molex slot. I'm having someone to look at it soon. If someone else knows any other posibilities I would like to here them!

I think its the PSU, was it a generic? I remember my 400W +12v 19A generic PSU ran my current system in my specs with a X800GTO, (nothing was overclocked) for a month then boom it shut off for 3 seconds, then restarted then shut off again and stayed off. When I tried to start it the fans did maybe 1 rotation then it shut off again. Sure enough the PSU had a burnt smell coming from it

If you still got a screen showing I doubt its your card man, try another better PSU. Could be the card but I don't think it is.
