Quad-Core AMD Opteron demonstrated by MSI, Supermicro, TYAN and Uniwide

AMD took the opportunity at Computex to server platforms running the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processors, codenamed Barcelona, with the help of MSI, Supermicro, TYAN and Uniwide

The AMD quad-core processors are designed to drop-in (following a BIOS upgrade) with all existing AMD Opteron processor-based systems using DDR2 memory, while also enabling new platform capabilities such as those being demonstrated today.

One vendor demonstrated Barcelona to DailyTech running at 1.6GHz. Current AMD Barcelona samples are not scaling too well. AMD partners confirmed the highest running, POST and OS capable, Barcelona processor is 2.0 GHz. AMD previously posted benchmarks of a simulated 2.6 GHz Barcelona.

And in related news. A Cinebench of said processor.

So if i read this right they tryed to overclock it and it didnt get past 2.0GHz?What is up with that,Now it also says that AMD posted benchmarkes "Simulated' at 2.6GHz does that mean that they had one that did 2.6 or that is just what they were thinking that it was going to do?

way to go AMD!

I hate to say it but I'm losing faith in AMD. They can only muster a 400 mhz overclock? Thats terrible. AMD really needs to get it together.

thats the way i understood it. that if it could do 2.6 thats how it would have performed

Well, they don't have much money to work with, but they really HAVE to come up with an Intel beater and soon cause this financial situation came at a really bad time for them, and no, I'm not an Intel fanboy, I just bought what performs best, but if thats AMD in 2 years from now, then, thats who gets my money, just hope AMD can pull it together so that Intel doesn't become the next Hitler..

Heh... Didn't AMD throw around reports about how much faster the K10 is. The Kentsfield, which will be old tech by the time K10 is released beat it by 58%. Ouch.

But this gentlemen has EXCELLENT points:

http://tdcwonk.blogspot.com/2007/06/...ng-idiocy.html

Paul, the only reason the Xeon beat the K10 by 58%, is because the clockspeed was 50% higher on the Xeon at the time of the crude benchmark.

Read the blog link above, it's not fanboy talk, it's simple facts about the cinebench results.
