Radeon HD 2900XT beats 8800 GTX in Company of Heroes DirectX 10! - Page 3

I'd rather have a passable average during slow play and be able to remain playable when the fit hits the shan than have a high average and totally bog down in heavy gameplay.

P.S. Those minimum aren't just better than the gtx, they beat the pants off it, wow.

I agree with you!!! I'm the same, don't like it if it's high framerate and suddenly it's drop down.

Doesn't typically high frame rate constitute smoother looking play?
EDIT: N/m, I get where you're coming from. High frame rate w/ likewise, lots of drops.

not true, you'll notice it more often of dropping down frame rate, higher min assure you to have smoother gameplay without notice the big dropdown in framerate.

Because they're using dual GPUs and dual/quad CPUs. They're optimizing their games to run on the biggest and baddest hardware that their sponsors (ATI/Nvidia/AMD/Intel) have on the market.
Anyways, ATI cards always ended up with higher lower frames and more consistent average frames, while nvidia cards are able to achieve higher frames but once the card bogs down it really suffers. I assume it's due to driver optimization more than anything else.

either way boss, if your game is running at 17 fps at any setting, thats about where its gets choppy and unenjoyable.

if my fps ever bottom out to that rate, i know its time to back it off.

case in point, id rather have the high average.

I think hes saying if it ever gets to that point where he loses a game because of the sudden fps drop he would probly back off and would rather play with higher avg fps where the fps would not drop that much. But im stupid.
