Radeon HD 2900XT beats 8800 GTX in Company of Heroes DirectX 10! - Page 5

4, 5, and 6 FPS for the NVidia card? ***? This game must be HORRIBLY coded. This is good for the 2900, but I doubt it reflects the true performance. We'll see when Crysis and UT2007 come out.

That's what I keep saying. These games are all DX9 re-makes and could be causing the problems. I think games built from the ground up for DX10 will be a lot different performance-wise.

That runs at 10FPS with no noticeable difference between DX9 and DX10. Nice. I'm actually kind of enjoying the look on all these people's faces when they see their games lag down to 8FPS on their SLI GTXes running at a tiny 12x10 resolution.

Yeah, frame rate drops like that are usually poor coding... STALKER anyone?

ATI cards usually tend to get higher minimum fps than NV cards do, average framerate benches don't mean squat. I bought my x1950pro specifically because it had high minimum FPS outdoors in Oblivion. I would have to say even though I own an 8800gts, seeing these results I would rather own a 2900XT for this game with this version of drivers.

I really am not going to get too hyped up about how good/awful DX10 is until I see a well coded game such as Crysis hopefully will be. The HL2 comparison that another poster made is absolutely perfect for this situation.

I agree with Modki that these DX9 ports are most likely killing the Dx10 cards. If CRYSIS can run DX10 on high-max with a GTX, this game must be horribly coded. Crysis is an example of a game being built almost from the ground up on DX10. Lost planet runs like crap (also a 360 port. Ports suck lol) Lets hope that the DX10 cards can pull off better DX10. Also remember,AMD/Ati and Nvidia have to work with this new Direct X. It might take a little bit to get some very good Dx10 drivers, (lets hope Nvidia gets off their ass and brings some good DX10 ones out soon)
And like binormalkilla said, 4,5,6 FPS is really unacceptable for cards ranging 300-500 bucks.

That's just it though. A DX10 game built from the ground up could potentially run even worse. It's anybody's guess at this point. No one knows what Crysis will run like. Sure, the developers say most any system will be able to handle the game, but is that the DX9 or DX10 version??

I'm hoping for the best, don't get me wrong. But all this DX10 business is not looking good at all. Hopefully a game like Crysis will turn the tables.

Well we have seen videos of it running on max with a GTX (sorry I can't give any links. at school right now). We know for sure SLI GTX runs this game fine in DX10. But even with SLI GTX in the company of heros, you would get bad frame rates according to that. I would put my money on it running max on a GTS with a good CPU. They are working with Nvidia. So Nvidia cards SHOULD be more optimised for Crysis.

Meh this is why i say i purchased my 8800GTX for current and near future DX9 games i want to play and also why i decided not to SLI. I have been seriously doubting if a 8800GTX could run games like Alan Wake and Crysis at near max settings for awhile.

Plan to upgrade again Q3 or early Q4. Was praying that the 2900XT would beat out the GTX so Nvidia would be forced to hurry with 8900/9000. Bleh whatever company comes out with the next gen card first get my money.

If ATI would simply higher some more skilled programmers they could take the lead. Their current programs do a remarkably horrible job on most drivers!!!
