Partitioning RAID0 barracuda's.

Hi. I have two 320gig seagate 7200.10's in a raid0 array.

It works lovely. I have 1 partition...OS, games, files, videos...all are on it. Backup goes to a 250gb firewire drive.

Question: Can I partition this "drive"? Drive is in quotes because the OS sees one drive, not two. I want to install a different OS for poop and giggles.

Would it be wise to re-arrange the setup? Gaming and some pro non HD video editing/converting are the biggest file demands that I have.

It reads it as one drive in the Windows Installation? If you haven't tried that, check if it does. It shouldn't, and you should be able to make a partition on that drive. You'd have to format it though ^_^

I meant when you look at the drive in XP...it sees it as one drive. I don't remember during the installation of windows. I didn't create the array in the windows installation. It was created before I installed XP.

So, in any case, I'd have to format both drives again?

Do check to see that the RAID controler can manage multi partition in RAID. I recall the HForce RAID controlers anen't to friendly in that aspect but I'm unsure in your case.
You could consider an additional HDD for the multi OS thing, less hastle than a full reformat of the current RAID aray.

Yeah...I'm just curious about Ubuntu and Vista. Reformatting 640 gigs doesn't sound like a good time to me.

If it weren't for their price, I'd buy a Mac with windows installed.

Honestly I'm only with windows because it's what I know, and all the games are made for it.

Maybe I'll take this to the OS forum
