PK5 and Memory

Thread Starter
Hello there

I am setting up a new system, and ofc I am tempted to get a p35 mobo.

Currently I tend towards the Asus P5K Deluxe, although I am not quite sure whether WIFI is the only difference between the Deluxe and the regular P5K mobo from Asus. The price difference is $100 however, so that is significant enough to think about it.

The ram I was considering is:

G.SKILL F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ PC2-6400 2GB 2X1GB DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit.

Comments are welcome

Thanks

A main difference in P35 boards is DDR3 Support. Just check to make sure the board and the RAM you buy are compatible. DDR2 RAM won't work in DDR3 slots and vice versa.

Just got mine today (p5k deluxe). p5k is ddr2 p5k3 is ddr3. Other than that, Deluxe has dual gb lan, extra pci x1 slot, wifi and most importantly, look at the supported fsb between the two. Deluxe notes 1333 where the p5k is still listed to being limited at 1066 fsb suppor. Not sure what else as it is late and I don't have specs in front of me.

By the way, not saying that this is worth the +$100 but the black pcb is way cool compared to the mustard color. Good luck and good hunting.

First off that memory will work great with the P5K or P5K-Deluxe. As stated above the P5K3-Deluxe is the DDR3 version.

The Deluxe has a few extra as stated above as well. The stock cooling pipes and what not are also improved upon.

The regular P5K also using the ICH9 SB which doesn't support raid.

Have a look here. That might help a bit.
