What happens if I run 7v thru a 5v fan?

It's a very slow fan and I don't want to buy a new one

Should run fine. May shorten it's life, but most fans have ridiculous lifespans.

@STN, ever seen someone run 24V through a 12V fan? It runs, like a banshee. It's obviously not suggested to run double the rated voltage, but typically DC motors can handle a broad range of voltages.

I did that with an 80mm fan, used it to replace the stock 70mm HS fan, temps dropped like crazy.

it'll be fine. i'm just kidding it'll start a black hole in your computer allowing extra dimensional beings to use it as a stronghold for the battle between good and evil. also see if you can solder over/remove some resistors. that actually may help to lengthen the life of the fan surprisingly
