7900GS or evga stepup ($120) to 8800gts?

Thread Starter
I currently am running an eVGA 7900GS, and I love it-- runs everything I want it to, runs great. My step up expires in 5 days and I'm considering stepping up to an 8800GTS...

Price I paid for 7900GS: $180 + $80 MIR, but eVGA counts it as $180
Step up options:
8600GT for $0
8600GTS for $40
8800GTS 320 for $120
Everything else is out of my range.

I wasn't planning on getting either of the 8600 cards because I was under the impression that they are a) crap and b) equivalent to a 7800, but this is impractical as I have a 7900. I switch back and forth between XP, Vista, and Ubuntu, but I could care less about DX10 because I realistically don't have the time nor the money to afford any next-gen games. (edit1) I play games at 1280x1024 and might upgrade to 1680x1050 eventually, so I don't do any huge-resolution gaming. I game casually, and the 79 can max out everything right now, so I'm leaning toward a 'no' for step up, just trying to get a second opinion, as I think that the 8800GTS will last me a lot longer than a 7900 will (this will be my last comp upgrade for a while if I follow through). That's about it.

So my question is, is it worth it to pay $120 to go from 7900GS to 8800GTS?

DanNEBTD, I haven't read anything about that, and since those are options that I see on the eVGA step up page, I would assume that they are available options. Besides that, I haven't seen anything about that in the Step Up Terms and Conditions or in their forums.

Xero, I would happily do that, except that once you've stepped up once, you can't do it again for that card; you have to buy a new card again at retail.

100% sure this is false. EVGA made a statement about it already and allows DX10 Step Ups.

If you read the Step Up terms, you only get $100 on the card since you used a rebate.
Once again...
