X1950PRO vs 7900GS - Page 2

I wouldn't really be that concerned of OCing an X1950 Pro. You will see 1 %5-10 increase in FPS from it. I would buy a card with a decent cooling solution, such as mine or the Sapphire ultimate (w the VF900). You want to have one with decent VRM cooling too, and both of the aforementioned cards have this. I could clock my HIS IceQ3 ro 661.5/823.5 3dmark06 stable with stock voltage. You can VMod the BIOS to get more VGPU, but it's really only for synthetic benches.
Then there's always soldering resistors....bad idea IMHO.

Also, Tom's Hardware FTW! The amount of information in that bar graph is really amazing. You can click the bars of the cards to read the test system along with driver info.

7900 gs has a good reputation for clocking high, but at stock the 1950 looks a bit better.

Then get the ASUS X1950 Pro, and buy some Swiftech BC14 BGA Ramsinks. Put these on the memory chips and put the Zalman heatsinks on the VRMs. OC away! That VF900 will do you great.

Most definitely. I had a Sapphire originally that I RMAd due to crappy VRM cooling (wouldn't OC past 594 MHz on the core) and it was on a 350W PSU. I got my OCZ and it didn't let me get past 594, so I RMAd it for an HIS.

Don't get the 8600gts, 7900gs or the 1950pro. Spend about 30$ more and get this sweet x1950xt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102067

190-20=170

The 8600gts I'd consider but I personally I think the x1950xt is sweeter because it's faster and we won't get too many dx-10 only games for a while. Most games are coded for dx9 as well.
