Razer Barracuda HD-1

Thread Starter
I just bought a pair of Barracuda HD-1 headphones and I am having some problems.

My first problem is that I can't for the life of me get the center or sub woofer drivers to work. I don't think they are broken I think it might actually have something to do with the Realtek HD Audio Manager I use w/ my on board.

Secondly, I am running Vista Ultimate and I can't seem to get the Mic to work. I have a feeling this might have something to do w/ my sound drivers as well.

My question for you is, do you think it is the drivers the on board sound card or am I just an idiot. Also, are there better drivers for my 7.1 on board soundcard that might fix my problems with the headphones? The Razer website says the bass drivers, center drivers, rear and front are all supported by a 7.1 surround sound soundcard - not only their Barracuda AC-1.

I am the thorn in Razer's side for problems involving Vista.

Go to the Razer support site and check out 'RazerGuys Blog'. I am Brian (not real name ^^) and I hate them.

On your topic however, I assume you are using the HDDAI adapter, and plugging the USB port in (this is the Mike). Regardless, you cannot use the inline 'amplifiers' to improve sound from the headphones, as this needs the HDDAI interface (without adapters) to fully control the 'amplifiers'.

The Sub, forget it m8 The bass has always been weak on the HP-1, and wihtout the AC-1 to be able to drive the speakers properly, they are basically set to 'Not Great' and only the Volume Mixer on the PC can attempt to change levels.

Try to update your soundcard drivers, but apart from that I am not sure

Alright, thanks.

I actually half-solved my problem.

I got the woofer, and center to work by playing with my connectors in the back. Apparently they aren't color coded the same way my onboard connectors are. I must say, for $130 these headphones are definently not worth it. I am sure I could get better sound with a $60 pair of headphones and a $70 sound card.

Thanks for your help.

edit: I think I am going to do exactly that. Does anyone have suggestions for a good gaming soundcard that will also sound really good with music. I have a 7.1 setup as well, so the soundcard isnt just for headphones. Finally, how about some suggestions for a good set of gaming headphones to go with the soundcard. My budget looks like its around $150 for the set, but i may be able to get a little more. Thanks.

The general mode is to go (unfortunately) X-Fi, to whichever suits your budget, and then I have heard that Sennheiser do a great range of headphones, but I think it would be best to ask an audiophile like Rakujin or someone else around here. They have used and tested alot of different setups and might be able to give you a much better answer than I can

You'd probably be better off with a pair of Senn HD555's or ATH A500's for your price range. A sound card would go a long way, even with the cans you currently have.

But on a side note if you want to lend me those headphones I'll review them
