It'll give you a Linux desktop running from the CD. It won't touch your hard drive at all.

But if it doesn't crash in a few minutes like in Windows, it's not a hardware issue.

Knoppix CD's are also good to have around in case Windows... or a hard drive... dies completely on you.

What do you mean by "if it doesn't crash in a few minutes like in Windows"?

If hardware is the cause of the crash, your computer will crash whether it's in Windows, or whatever else you're using.

So if it doesn't crash in Knoppix, it's a software problem with Windows.

Ok, now read the above quote, that implies that he has the CD but the Key is not working.
So which is it, no CD or invalid key?

He's running willy nilly all over the place, D/L this D/L that, clean this clean that, uninstall this and that, reinstall this and that.

Nothing is working.

Well it doesn't crash when im just doing browsing listening to music MSN etc etc. Only when I play games. So i'm thinking it most probably is a faulty card. I'll make sure the heatsinks properly connected. I'm idling at 62 degrees atm.

I phoned Microsoft the other week for a new key when I was just gonna use my 160 gig and remove my 20 gig but the product key they gave me didn't even work . So I just use the 20 gig to boot up windows and use my 160 gig as a slave.

Ah. I thought it was crashing all the time, no matter what you're doing.

Nope, just seems when I play games .

I'm seriously thinking my card is knackered. So many artifacts in ATI tool . I'll have to check if my GPU heatsink is all properly connected if it is, i'll just have to do no gaming 'till I can save for a 7600, 7800 or 7900

I used Linux to discover I had a bad onboard video chip. I contacted Biostar, got an RMA number, decided I didn't want to go back to my 533MHz Celery while I wait... so I never RMA'd.

I got the same lockup/screen corruption in Linux.

I bought a GeForce 7600GT, and all my problems went away. The only time it's crashed on me since the new GPU was during a Half-Life 2 physics engine glitch. (nothing was being affected by gravity or collisions that I touched, then it started shooting around on the screen and lagged my processor so bad I was getting about 1 frame every 15 seconds)
