Hi, I want to get a PentiumD 945, but would it beat my overclocked P4 ? I can't get a C2D because my mobo supposedly doesn't support it. Can you help?

How much is the Pentium D going to run you? Just get a new mobo, looks like you have DDR2. A 4300 would beat all those.

The PentiumD 945 is €180, which is about $130. (more expensive for everything in Europe) I don't really want to spend more money on a new mobo, not right now anyway.

well yes it would beat it "clock for clock" Pentium D cores are about 2/6ths faster than Pentium 4 cores and you will have two of them,So to beat that pentium d at 2.4GHz you would need a 6,7GHz pentium 4 becuase the two cores comes out to 4.8GHz of proformance and then you need you add a 1/3 to that and you will have you proformance boost.

what revision is your motherboard? there's two different revisions, 1 and 2. different is revision 2 can support C2D.

the pentium d would be better as its dual core, so in dual core games such as the upcoming halflife2 ep2 then the d will be better but in most games now i dont think it would be. But you could overclock the d.

edit, i thought d's used the same arcitecture as p4's, my bad.

ok, thanks, my motherboard is revision 1 I'm afraid. Why wouldn't it support C2D if it's 775 ? anyway yeah I could try overclocking the PentiumD also. If I get a score of 5400 in 3dMark06, how much of an increase do you think i'd get? Thanks for your help.
