Dell 2407 arrived, couple of questions...

First of all I have to say this monitor is HUGE! And totally stunning, the pics don't do it justice (esp once it's lowered into it's stand), it's a bute Picture quality is awesome too, the colours are spot on and the text is sharp and crisp. I can read all text as normal even when the screen is pushed right to the back of the desk (something I couldn't do with the sam 226).

So far I think it is perfect for what I need.... except for one thing (which I think is common with this type of panel anyway?),

Basically when you view a website with dark text on a light background, and then use the scroll bar or scroll wheel on the mouse you get a kind of 'ghosting' effect (also happens if you drag the browser around with the same page open - usually up and down tho).

You don't get it on all sites, just those with dark text on light background, eg these:

http://www.gamesey.com/game-forums.php

http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum...fm/731931.html

On the first website, the ghosting is pinkish, on the second it is greenish :-/

Is there anyway to fix this? Does this happen on your 2407? Should I send it back? I can live with it and I've seen the same thing happen on other LCDs too so guess it's a panel thing.

The other thing I wanted to ask is, how do you know if you have an S-PVA panel or an S-IPS panel? Mine is the HN208L6, which someone in that second link said was a S-IPS panel. It certainly feels like one, there is no darkness at all when looking at the centre spot from an angle.

One last thing, there were no drivers on the disk, it's using the default generic windows driver (in XP) is this ok? I downloaded the driver for Vista, but there was nothing for XP...

Overall I am very please with this monitor, I can live with the ghosting so long as it won't effect watching videos, but if it's uncommon or a fault then I should think about getting it replaced perhaps..?

Have you installed your graphics card drivers? Because I know mine did that too, then I updated my graphics driver and all was well.

Post a printscreen?

Is ClearType enabled and are you running the monitor at native resolution?

Here's a photo, no flash on so bad pic but you can see the ghosting. On this page it's not on the text, but the blue forum category bars.

This is whilst quickly scrolling the page down.

I think it may be the graphics card as I plugged the Dell into my laptop and it wasn't as bad (but this time in blue!) Also via the laptop the second links' page was fine :-/

Edit: tried it on a mac mini too, same thing. I wondering tho, is this normal for these panels as I'm sure I've seen something similar on a NEC lcd too.

Not normal.... Have you check the cable? It could be a signal loss/sync issue. Is your refresh rate set at 60Hz?

I have the 30" dell and notice no ghosting even with that, I would ring them ASAP it's not normal.

Refresh rate I think is the same for the larger dells is always fixed at 60hz.

I tried it with the VGA cable as well... same thing.

Looks like I'm gonna have to send it back then Which is a shame as apart from this it is perfect.

Call Dell before returning. It might be a known issue. They may have a workaround or firmware update.
