Vista like every other OS before takes more resources to run on it, games to a hit between Me and XP, we complained, those same games and any game for that matter still run faster on 98/Me but we choose XP, Vista will be the new platform, but its morons like you that dont see that, his computer is fast enough to not notice the minor impact vista will give.
A friend of mine got the Home Premium, so I asked to borrow it and installed it on a spare 160gb WD HD. I booted up, looked good so far. I liked the layout and the overall feel of it but there are so a few problems that bugges me to no end. BF2, BF2142, R6V, and even some steam games will crash. Photoshop, Vegas 7.0, Premier Pro have also crashed on me for no reason at all. Some programs don't work, the drivers still isn't mature.

What I'm saying is that Vista is not mature yet, it'll be great some day, when the driver support is there.

lol im sorry but that is pretty funny, you have almost 2k in video card alone... The irony is ridiculous....
but hell if you got the money then more power to you.

ok now that im done laughing lets figure out your problem.

are you using the very latest drivers for vista?

also those cards are putting a huge bottleneck on your system. If you can get any more juice out of your pc your score will go up a ton

also since you spent all that money I assume you are fairly rich? why not invest in a phase system? with phase you could have one of the best personal computers on the planet

This is 100% wrong.

Without starting a massive flame war, Vista is about 300% better than XP for everyday use. It makes the entire computing experience much easier, faster, and streamlined (assuming your computer can handle it).

Your teachers were simply lazy and didn't want to spend the 3 or so hours it takes to learn Vista.

As for gaming...well...for benchmarking Vista does kind of suck, but for most games you only lose about 10 - 20% framerates on Vista.

However, even on my rather modest system, I've been playing most of my games on Vista wihtout ANY issues - and they look pretty damn good to boot. I have XP on my machine, but Vista is so much better I rarely boot XP anymore...

Start here. $99 for a 36GB single-platter Raptor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136054

Add this:

$89: Windows XP home: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116056

Then, remove all non-essential processes from XP (there are a bunch of links on these forums regarding this).

Install ONLY the latest drivers, and nothing more.

And ONLY use this drive for Benchmarking.

There's a start. It gives us a fresh base to start with - we know the problem won't be software or driver related if you start that way. Besides, Vists is sucking 300 - 900 points off your score, anyway.
Why get a $99 HDD just for benching off of? It will give very little performance/bench changes compared to a basic HDD...

Vista was ok for me when I was benching the e6600 and a single ultra...it got me to #22 on the charts.

I believe Vista knocks of points but in the hundreds, not thousands. I might just experiment/bench and see the ACTUAL difference in scores in a similar rig...XP vs Vista.

Try these and check your score in SLI.

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_158.18_2.html

This is the latest driver that supports SLI. It's also the one with "performance enhancements" or whatever.

Because if the guy spent $2,000k for video cards, I think he's serious about his benchmark scores.

A raptor WILL indeed give you a boost (though not huge by any means) in 3dmark06 as your computer is CONSTANTLY accessing your HD throughout the benchmark.

Instead of flaming the guy like most of you have been doing, I'm trying to give him some help that is in-line with his goals here, isntead of doing the whole:

"ZOOOMG JOO SHUD HAV3 GoTTten A 88*0 KO Insted!"

I agree. The difference tends to be in the 300 - 900 point range (you are probably closer to the 900 end of the spectrum with your setup).

But if you've spent all this cash for the video cards that no game currently available can POSSIBLY take advantage of, I assumed you wanted to leave no stone unturned in teh quest for high benchmark scores.

IF that's the case - XP will buy you more than a few extra points, and the drivers are all mature.

Ok Raptorboy and Vista-hater. Out! Let's focus on why he's only getting 50% performance from his Ultra's we'll worry about installing Winold HaxP later.

thank you

I think the biggest thing that is causing him troubles is the bottleneck on the cpu... imagine if he had phase on that cpu....and if he really wants to get going in the benchmarking world than that is the way to go
