DISAPPOINTING Ultra SLI 3dmark06 benches? - Page 7

I would hope so, I installed a 1000w PSU last night. The previous 850w would shut off the system running 3dmark06 on SLI!
Due to what though?

SO it is my CPU+Vista that is bottlenecking?
Without seeing XP benches on your system, couldn't really say at the moment.

Probably because it isnt the best, and a multi-rail design.

For these rigs, single rail PSUs are the best. Examples are PC Power & Cooling and the Silverstone OP/DA series.

Note that if a PSU has Quad 20A 12V rails that it doesn't have to mean it delivers 80A. It probably is less (in most cases it is).

I am beginning to suspect that too. The ultras might not be getting enough Amps to go 100%.

Cog, I believe it was due to too much draw. I have since returned the PSU, plus I was not about to go tinkering in there with a meter.

Ok Modki - no reason to call me "raptor boy."

All I was saying was that I'm assuming this guy has checked all the starndard hardware crap like being sure the mobo was set to SLI, double checking the bridge, double-checking that SLI is turned on, etc...

Soooo, the best way to get a reliable baseline to start wiht is to use an OS with mature drivers on a fresh install. Don't act like my suggestion was superfluous or out of left field or something. Though my rig is kinda slow, it's the second fastest on 3dmark06 out of like 30+ similar systems. I do know what I'm talking about...

As for the Original poster, I had no idea your proc was not overclocked. I assumed it was (bad assumption, I guess).

That is obviously the first culprit to look into. To push the kind of data that 2 GTXs will toss around is no small task. If you're on air you should be able to hit 3.4GHZ or so reliably.

That is the place to start.

Wait, Nitteo.

Are you OCed or no? Some of the original posts implied that you werent. 2.66 Ghz, even across 4 cores, won't slice the ham.

But if you are running @3.43, the amount of bottlenecking shoudl be severly cut down - at least enough to net you higher scores than what you're getting.

As I keep saying, if you don't find a solution soon, start wiht a clean install and baseline of everything - that way we can at least narrow it down to a hardware issue. Find someoen with a similar mobo, proc, and vid cards whose rig WORKS, and install all the same drivers. If yours still has a problem...well then likely it's a powering issue. If the vid cards were defective you'd be getting errors like crazy. However, its possible (as you stated), that the cards are getting wheened off power at high use.

But at the same time, your PSU was specifically designed for applications such as this. I can't imagine that it's unable to power 2 GTX's.

He did a run with it OC'd to 3.33 and got 14981 (or something like that). His original marks he posted were non-OC'd.

I somehow missed that.

Is it possible to OC Nvidia cards in Vista yet? (I ask, because the majority of ATI cards still can't be OCed in Vista).

If so, get on that!

You can easily pull another 500 - 1,500 points out if you max out your vga cards and push your proc 3.6 GHZ (but i wouldn't recommend runnig at this speed everyday on air).

Yeah I am still trying to find a sweetspot on the Qx6700. I am beginning to think even the Tuniq Tower can't handle OC'ing Quads...even though some people swear it can.

BTW: In the OCZ forums, they are insisting that the 850w was enough! There is NO substitute for real world testing.
