I am trying to figure out how to remove the top panel so I can consider painting it... I found the latches in the front and back but for some reason it still wouldn't come off

There are also two screws in the top that hold the fan in.
They need to be removed (a ground wire is going to one).

The four big tabs you can see need to be pressed against the side of the case.
the two tabs in front need to be pushed towards the front of the case. (tricky)
Use a long flat head screwdriver and enter from the rear.

The screws can be accessed from the bottom.
Two small silver screws on mine.
One has a ground wire running to it.
