How I justify the purchase of an iPhone - Page 2

On a separate notion: Isn't this the same thing we do when building a PC? Get more because it either looks cool or gets you there faster?
No not really IMO. Performance unfortunately has it's price in the PC market. Is it not true you get what you pay for? I've had cheap motherboards and did they really work well? No, not really. Does my phone work as well as the iPhone? Probably.

I don't buy on `cool as hell` I buy on `will it give me what I want the most officiant, performance and dollar wise?`

Hey it's the father in me. I'm older than most here and lately, due to volume of threads I cannot seem to relate on any level, I think I'm about ready to quit OCN. It's a young kids oasis and I just feel left out and old. Nothing against anyone here but again everything against everyone here

I agree with Audi. If I bought one, it'd be because I wanted it. What is somebody going to say? "No, you didn't want that! Liar!"

I can't stand it when people rag on you because you bought something they wouldnt'. I wanted it, or I would not have bought it.

Thread Starter
I put this post up for ignorant people, you may have a free cellphone and a no name mp3 player but they are like comparing apples and oranges, your mp3 player does not play videos, you cannot download movies television shows nad mp3s straight off your mp3 player so it definitely is not getting you from point a to b like an iphone would. your free phone probably isnt touch screen, probably doesnt have any kind of e-mail or full internet capabilities, you cant view pictures on it or any kind of multimedia at all, so for a lot less money you got a lot less product and for a lot more money I am getting a lot more product. I guess I shouldn't have named it how I justify my purchase and just named it why its such a good deal, but the majority of news I have been reading they are using the word justify a lot "can you justify paying $600 for a phone?" so that is what sparked me to write this thread, I think that the iPhone is a great deal and I think anyone in the market for or that already owns an mp3/mpeg player and a smart phone should trade up or get an iphone merely to have an all in one product at a cheaper price. Obviously people who do not desire these things I speak of will not want an iPhone or look down upon it, just like an environmentalist looks down on people who own Hummers.

Yes for you it's justified because you liked the `big` toys. I have a no name mp3 player that does me just fine and wasn't 300$. I also have cell phone that was free with signup. Guess what. They both do what yours does but much cheaper. Yes it's cool and please don't tell me that has no bearing on your decision as I'm sure it's a good % of your self justification here. Hell just having to post this to justify your purchase tells me your doubting it.

They both have 4 wheels, get you from point A to point B, it's just how flashy you wanna look getting there. For some they must but for me I could care less.

I dont' look down on anyone. Honestly if you want it that's great. If it eats away at the Ozone, I don't mind -- honestly.

It's not for me. End of discussion and I'm sorry I even gave one iota of personal opinion. You came here giving justification. Lets have a looksee at what it means then.. Hmmm

Quote:
WordNet - Cite This Source justification
noun
1. something (such as a fact or circumstance) that shows an action to be reasonable or necessary; "he considered misrule a justification for revolution"

2. a statement in explanation of some action or belief

3. the act of defending or explaining or making excuses for by reasoning; "the justification of barbarous means by holy ends"- H.J.Muller

I don't have to justify any excuse because I will not be wanting nor purchasing one. The burden is all upon you -- my bad.

your 8800 isn't a point a-b thing... that would be more like a 6600. It'll play all games out now....you just turn down settings...lol.

Oh well.

People are not looking at the iphone the right way, I hear so many people saying "a $600 phone! Are you nuts!?" But although it sounds corny Steven Jobs is correct, this is not just a phone, it is an internet device "the best internet device on a phone ever", its an ipod "the best ipod ever" and a phone "the best phone ever" so to have all three of these things and more all in one device with these features it really is a deal in my mind.
Calling something "the best iPod ever" isn't saying much.

Here's why I won't ever own one:

It's too big.
It's AT&T/Cingular; I've been a Sprint customer for 7-8 years now.
I own an 60GB ipod.

Put my cell phone on top of my ipod and it wont take up as much room as the iPhone. Sure it does lots of neat stuff, but, meh. It's all overrated in my opinion. It's not going to take over the blackberry market - I just don't see many self-respecting business men going out and grabbing these up.

I don't know who you are responding to but i am looking at the iphone like, their are multiple other devices with the same features, for alot less, therefore the price isn't justified by the name. Also this is basically the exact opposite of the arguement on the PS3's price, in this case there is multiple choices to look at where as the PS3 is the only console with a ton of different features no one else has and is alot cheaper than it actually costs to make, though the Iphone costs twice as much as it costs Apple to make...
