My new 8800gts 320mb, couple ?'s

Thread Starter
Hey guys I was shopping around and picked up a EVGA 8800gts 320mb at circuit city. It has a $40 mir so total cost after rebate will be $256. Decent deal I think. Anyways I have not been following this card very much so I was wondering is the stock cooling adequate for ocing. It says in atitool that the gpu is running at 52c idle. Ati tool says my clocks (stock) are 512/792

This seems kind of low for this card but it is a model #320P2N811DX, I dont know if this is the slowest version or something.

Couple of questions, do you guys use atitool to oc these things and anyone with this card have any complaints with it so far.

Thanks for any info and I must say this thing is huge compared to anything Ive had in the past.

The stock cooling is plenty fine to OC this thing. I've got mine OC'ed to it's limits and honestly temperatures haven't raised but 2 or 3 degrees. You will however need to adjust the fan speed (See my sig for that) or else it will run considerably hotter.

I used ATITool to OC mine for a while, but I switched to Riva because it seemed more logical to keep 1 program running for fan speed + OC than 2 programs. Either one is just fine, as far as I can see.

It's a great card, you'll love it!

Thanks Ill check out rivatuner (havnt used it in ages), I got just over 201k in AM3 at stock on the vid card. My 7900gt would get 172k when overclocked to its limits after voltmodding so thats a nice jump so far.
Thanks for the guide

Yea those are pretty good cards with stock cooling, I clocked the ones I had to GTX speeds and had no problems whatsoever. Had 2 in SLI with my E6600@3.6 and scored over 15k in 06
post #5 of 19
yeh those are the stock speeds... you should be able to hit 630/2000 when overclocking though...

you might want to get a pci exhaust blower for underneath the card if you want to keep it cooler.

I used Rivatuner to set my fan speed to 100% and I have it set that way when windows boots up. For overclocking I just use the nVidia control panel. I don't really run the card overclocked because at stock speeds it handles all my games.

Yea, that is the slowest model for the 8800 GTS 320 MB from EVGA. But ... it's still a 8800 GTS , anyways, ATiTool is great for overclocking, I have NEVER had a problem with it. NEVER, runs perfectly fine everytime. Just remember, ease off overclocking if your temps for idle is more than 65, and your load temp is over 80. Over those temps can be very damaging to the GPU. If you're planning to do extensive overclocking, invest your time and money in better cooling solutions. Or use rivatuner to set the fan speed to 100% which works really well.

Good buy!

Thanks swift Ill look into that, I get pretty good flow thru my case right now, the side is vented and I have a 120 push pull from front to back and a 120 on top thats adjustable (mainly for the ram).

With the fan adjusted to 85% my temps dropped to 46c, pretty good.

Hey demigod I followed your guide and the only thing was at the save point it was never highlighted. If I restart it it sets what I have in there at 85% but it wont save, I think I am good but not sure.

Rivatuner question, when I oc Ill probably find my maxes with the atitool just to make it easy then transfer them over to rivatuner. Now do I want to oc all 3 settings to the same value the 2d/low power 3d/performance 3d, or just worry about the performance 3d.

Its been a while since I used this to oc with probably since my 6800gt agp card
thanks
