I'll be removing my Opty 165 IHS.

any suggestions before I do this? Don't worry, this CPU is dirt cheap now so I won't feel bad if I eff up.

I'll be following the guide closely. I was just wondering has anyone attempted this. I would like to use my ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu but this thing is damn heavy!

I just hope the cpu socket won't get in the way. The base of the Zalman is quite small because of its "flower" design. Meanwhile the stock HS is very wide and would overlap the CPu socket. With the IHS removed, the core would be sitting lower than the sides of the CPU socket. I could sand the edges of the cpu socket to the level of the CPU core but what would you recomend?

1. Using the Zalman heatsink and risk crushing the core, without the CPU socket getting in the way. the advantage of the Zalman is that I use the screws to adjust the tension to my own preference, no retention bracket.

2. Sanding the CPU socket down to make it flush with the core and using the stock HSF, but not having any control over the mounting pressure.

No point in going through all the trouble of removing the IHS if you are going to use stock cooler

Don't worry about the weight of the zalman, the mobo back plate will carry most of the load.

Just make sure you don't over tighten it, that is the only way you would really crush the core. Oh and don't drop the zalman on top of the naked core

Good look and report back with the results.
