Quick raid 0 question - Page 2

You're not obligated to get an identical drive. It's optimum, but doable if you get a drive with the same specs.

Hard drive makers are not obligated to be exact when it comes to size.

For example:

100 GB might be
100,000,000,000 bytes, or 100,000,498,359 bytes.

For the average user, this difference is negligible, but in RAID, if you actually fill up the whole drive, a dumb raid controller might try to overwrite by a few bytes, and that WILL cause a problem.

Well i am not to worried about crashes because i wont have anything valuable on it, just games and movies and i could easily get the games and movies again. Is the raid controler on a gigabyte S3 series motherboard concidered a bad one? BTW it didnt come with any floppy drives for raid setup so what i am going to do is disconect all hd's except the two and enable raid in the bios and maybe it will let me set it up from there. The drive is comeing tomorow so ill let you know how it goes. Can you also recomend soem programs that can compare the read and write speds to say a raptor?

For RAID 0 and RAID 1, there's no real bad RAID controller, since it's simple stuff.

For ANYTHING more advanced, ALL on-board controllers are bad.

As far as the floppy thing goes, your mobo probably came with a CD ROM that will contain the drivers you may need. In this case, you will need to have a floppy drive, and you will need to get a blank floppy disk.
