Arctic-Cooling Freezer 64 Pro problem, please help~~

Thread Starter
I have just got this Freezer 64 Pro which is recommended by some of the overclockers for mild to moderate overclock. I just installed this HSF but unfortunately found this morning that the idle temperature is 44C which is about the same as the stock HSF, and the full-loading temperature is 71C which is even 2 degree higher than the stock HSF!!

I have checked the mounting of the Freezer 64 Pro which is mounted tightly on the socket, just a little bit shifted closer to the left hand side (since I need to fit the clip on the left hand side first, then press and fit the clip on the right hand side and lastly use the lock arm on the right hand side to tighten it).

According to some experienced users, Freezer 64 Pro should be able to bring the tempature down around 10C when comparing with the stock HSF.

For your information, I have 1 case fan in the front pannel for intake air, 1 case fan at the back for exhaust and 1 case fan on the left hand side of the case cover for intake too. I suppose the airflow is no problem within the case. My room temperature is around 28-30C (a hot room >_<).

May anyone suggest why I got this poor result? Is the sitting of the HSF problem, or I have to wait a few days for the pre-applied MX-1 to have maximum performance?

Thanks!!

Please enter your system stats HERE.

What is your current CPU voltage and are you overclocked? 71 degrees does not make ANY sense.

did u put on the AS5?

edit: negative, you need some AS5,

but it sounds to me as you dont have that much air movement inside ur case

and what are you using to monitor your temps?

There should be no need for AS5, as the Freezer 64 comes with MX-1 pre-applied and it is a very good thermal paste.

I would suspect either a case airflow problem or the heatsink not being seated correctly. See if opening up the side of your case gets the temperature to go down.

I use Everest to monitor the temperature. My CPU voltage is 1.4V and I overclocked 11% from stock 10.5x200 to 10.5x222.

At the beginning I also suspected that there is not enough of airflow within my case, so I buy 3 case fan (1 at the front for intake, 1 at the back for exhaust and 1 on the left hand side of the case cover for intake), but the temperature doesn't drop. I also tried to open the case but only got 1-2 degree drop. One more thing, my room is quite hot (always around 28-32C).

I also think that the pre-applied MX-1 is a very good thermal paste and I have no reason to replace it. I may try to get the heatsink reseated and see if it helps.

Thanks!

Also replace the stock fan, I did it and noticed 5c drop in temps, then I lapped my freezer and got a further 7c drop in temps.

Stock, I think this HSF sucks. I was running 5-6c MORE than the OEM when I first got mine. I then lapped it and replaced the stock fan with a Sunon 92mm (zip ties rock). Now, I'm at 27c idle/ 39c load.

like someone said: do you have it set right? it should be set so the hot air gets pulled out through the rear exhaust fan, like

http://www.pcarena.pl/zdjecia/cooler...%20Pro/ac8.jpg

if you have it set that way. like others said, reseat it. if you see no temp drops after a couple days, i would return it

ps: if your room is always hot, it won't cool very well. as for the cpu temp is always > the ambient temp (may be not always. im sure someone will come along and prove me wrong. but okay usually like 99% of the time on air cooling)

so you should look into dropping your room ambient temp. turn on the a/c.

I just tried to reseat the heatsink and got about the same results (44C idle / 68C load). I am pointing the heatsink in the correct direction (exactly like the picture provided by "this n00b again", the hot air gets pulled out through the rear 80mm exhaust fan).

By the way, I am surprised to know that the original 92mm fan comes with Freezer 64 Pro is not good enough? Need to replace it? Is it difficult to replace it? Any good replacement (brand/model)?

Moreover, just know from "vwgti" and "WilsonTheDog" that lapped the Freezer will get much better cooling. What is the meaning of "lapped the Freezer"? How to get it lapped?

For the room temperature, as you can imagine, 28-32C is quite impossible for anyone to sit in while playing games for hours. If it is the case, I must turn on the air-conditioner (it will give 36C idle / 58C load). Since I always leave my computer on while I am at work, my concern is when I am not with my computer but I remotely control it to do something, it will be getting too hot.

Finally sincerely thanks to everyone for spending time on solving my problem.
