Help Heat!

Thread Starter
I ma getting to get ready to do some upgrades to a ready built (not my fault!)
Ultra computer with a E6400 and a 965 intel board. Well the first thing that I noticed was that this thing is currently running at 60c+ at he processor and the mobo is not doing much better! I plan on a new board in the near future with a MUCH better heat sink. So my questions are:

1. Is this anywhere normal? Since I am not suffering any performance issues?
2. Is there anything that can be done to remedy this prior to replacing everything? All fans appear to be working fine

Come on Gurus help a newbe out!

Do you have any pictures of the board? And what are you using to measure the temps?
My motherboard runs <30*C but staying under 45*C is fine. 60*C is the upper limit (depending on what you are using to measure) for the CPU.

try to reseat the heatsink. It may be loose or have poor contact with the core.

to cgrado, it is just a D965WH board, and I used everest home edition to monitor. Thought that the might not be accurate since the computer runs vista (everything else has issues!) but when I double checked in the bios it backed up these readings, plus it even felt hot.
I plan on replacing heat sink and didnt want to make a special order for the grease now but if you guys say that is what I need to do I will head straight to newegg! Let me know

Well, it shouldn't be hitting that high even with the stock heat sink. What are your ambient (room) temps?

Around 75F, But what just threw me for a loop is that the intel support says it should run around 61c! So I guess that I am not really going to worry about it right now and just replace everything next week, Thinks for the help guys!

Wow, maybe on OEM systems. They have poor airflow and the stock heatsink, meaning they run hotter than other systems. With better airflow in your case and a better heatsink, you should get much lower temps.

Ew that summer heat is getting to you. If you can you may just want to pick up a AC window unit it helps a ton with those room temps. Like for me i have really nice air flow but it doesn't help when my room is burning up during the summer.
